True celebrates National Nutrition Month

image

With diet crazes taking over the healthy eating space, it can be difficult for the general population to know what a healthy diet actually is. And National Nutrition Month aims to put a stop to that.

What is National Nutrition Month?

National Nutrition Month is an initiative pioneered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since the 1980s. Throughout March, the Academy on Nutrition and Dietetics raises awareness about healthy eating with the aim to bust myths about food and nutrition.

National Nutrition Month encourages participants to learn about nutrition and healthy eating from a reliable source. This allows them to make informed decisions about their food to eat better and improve their lifestyle.

Tips for a Healthy Diet from National Nutrition Month

So, what steps can we take to improve our nutrition for a healthier diet? The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends:

Varying your diet

The key to a healthy diet is to eat a wide variety of foods that cover all the main foods groups: fruits and vegetables, carbohydrates, dairy, protein and fats.

While some of these food groups have a bad reputation, they are still needed in moderation to fuel your body for a healthy lifestyle, so try to include a little bit of each into your diet.

Learning to cook

Being able to cook well unlocks lots of new ways to eat healthy foods and make them much more exciting.

Gone are the days where fruits and vegetables are seen as boring additions to meals. With so many free recipes and cooking videos available online, everyone can access valuable information that can broaden their cooking skills.

Meal planning

Eating a healthy diet is easier in theory than it is in practice. Some days it’s hard to decide what to eat, meaning we revert to unhealthy options.

To avoid this, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends meal planning. Each week, before your grocery shop, plan out what you will eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, so you know exactly what to buy.

This will help take the pain out of choosing what to eat every day, as you’ve already decided and have all the ingredients you need!

True top tip: If you have a busy schedule and don’t have time to cook every day, try preparing your meals in bulk at the start of the week, so it’s quick and easy to cook down the line.

Talk to a dietician

If you have specific dietary requirements or you’re struggling to plan a healthy meal plan, don’t be afraid to talk to a professional nutritionist or dietician.

A professional will help you to identify what foods you should eat and in what quantities to achieve a balanced diet, even if you’re restricted on some food groups.

Designed to perform. Built to last.

Commercial kitchens are stressful enough, without also having to worry about the longevity and reliability of your vital refrigeration systems. This makes it essential to choose cooling solutions that are built to stand the test of time—and not simply be replaced in the short to medium term.
